South End Housing Update, June 2026

In June 2026, walls are going up on more and more new homes in the South End as part of this affordable housing project. This site along South Pearl Street had been a vacant lot just six months ago.

The Albany County Land Bank and its partners continue to advance the development of more than 160 units of new, affordable housing in the historic South End of the City of Albany. After years of planning, design, and permitting, the progress is visible with site work happening and new building foundations have been formed. Site fencing started during the winter and with spring conditions upon us, foundations have taken shape on many sites. Here and in the full gallery are progress photos at the project site. This includes the foundations that have been laid at many sites around the project area.

To keep the community informed, the Land Bank has updated its project page to include a photo gallery that shows the project as it advances along. That gallery will be updated periodically as conditions allow so that our progress is well documented.

This project is a partnership that includes the Land Bank, Novus Living, and MDG Design + Constriction. Other partners include the County of Albany, Habitat for Humanity, NYS Homes and Community Renewal, the City of Albany, Pike Construction, and Passero Associates.
